Why people ask for it

A familiar name, made in Worcester

Worcester Bosch is part of the Bosch group and makes boilers in Worcester. It is one of the makes we see most often in Croydon homes, and plenty of people ask for it by name because their last one served them well or a neighbour recommended it.

We fit all the major brands, so our advice isn’t tied to one make. If a Greenstar suits your home, we’ll quote for one. If another boiler would suit it better, we’ll explain why and you choose.

If your boiler has just stopped working, it may not need replacing at all. Our Worcester Bosch boiler repair page covers the common faults and codes.

The Greenstar range

Which Greenstar suits which home

Worcester Bosch sells its gas boilers under the Greenstar name, in combi, system and regular versions. Model names change over time, so we confirm the current model on your quote.

Greenstar combi

Heating and hot water from one box, with no tanks. The usual choice for flats and one-bathroom homes, as long as the mains flow is good enough.

Greenstar system

Heats a separate hot water cylinder, with the pump and expansion vessel built into the boiler. Suits homes where two showers often run at once.

Greenstar regular

Heat only, working with a cylinder and tanks in the loft. Often the simplest swap if you want to keep the system you already have.

Worcester Bosch controls

Worcester Bosch makes its own thermostats and smart controls. Some features depend on pairing the right control with the right boiler, so we check before fitting.

Which boiler?

Combi, system or regular Greenstar?

The same brand comes in three layouts. Which one fits depends on how your hot water works now and how much of it you use.

No tank needed

Combi boiler

Heats water on demand, straight from the mains. No hot water cylinder, no tanks in the loft.

Best for: Flats and most 1 to 3 bedroom homes with one bathroom, or two with a larger model.

Hot water cylinder

System boiler

Heats a hot water cylinder, usually in an airing cupboard. Mains-fed, so no loft tanks.

Best for: Bigger homes with two or more bathrooms in use at the same time.

Loft tanks

Regular boiler

Also called heat-only or conventional. A cylinder plus cold water tanks in the loft.

Best for: Older homes with low mains pressure, or where the pipework is built around it.

Choosing a model

Four questions that pick the right Greenstar

Brand is the easy part. These are the choices that decide whether the boiler works well in your home.

QuestionWhy it mattersWhat we check
Combi, system or regular?A combi needs good mains flow. A cylinder copes better with two bathrooms in use at once.Your current setup, your bathrooms and the mains flow
What output?Too small and hot water is weak. Too big and it cycles on and off.Bedrooms, bathrooms and how you use hot water
Which controls?Boiler Plus needs time and temperature control, and a combi needs one extra energy-saving measure.Which controls work properly with your model
Same position?Fitting it in the same spot keeps the job shorter and tidier.Flue route, gas pipe size and condensate run

Sizes are a guide until the survey confirms them. More on smart thermostat installation.

Comparing quotes

What your Greenstar quote should include

Use this to compare any two quotes. If one is cheaper, check it isn’t simply missing something on this list.

  • A survey of flue, gas supply and water flow

Decides the boiler size and whether a combi will give decent showers.

“How did you size the boiler?”

  • System cleaned to BS 7593, with inhibitor

Sludge from the old system is the main killer of new boilers.

“Is a full system clean included?”

  • Magnetic system filter

Keeps catching debris for the life of the boiler.

“Which filter, and where will it go?”

  • Controls that meet Boiler Plus

A legal requirement in England, and it saves gas.

    “Which controls are included?”

  • New flue kit, positioned to the rules

Reusing an old flue or a bad position can fail inspection.

“Is the flue new, and where will it exit?”

  • Condensate pipe protected from frost

A frozen condensate pipe is the most common winter breakdown.

    “Where will the condensate drain?”

  • Old boiler, tanks and cylinder removed

Disposal costs money. Make sure it’s not an extra on the day.

    “Is removal and disposal included?”

  • Building Control notified, warranty registered

Without them, selling the house and claiming on the warranty get harder.

“Who notifies, and who registers the warranty?”

Warranty

Keeping the Worcester Bosch warranty valid

The warranty is one of the reasons people choose a brand. It only works if the paperwork is right.

  • Registered after fitting

The warranty has to be registered with Worcester Bosch after installation, usually within a set time. We do it for you, in your name.

  • Length varies

How long you’re covered depends on the model and how it was registered. We tell you what your model comes with on the quote.

  • Serviced every year

Like most manufacturers, Worcester Bosch needs the boiler serviced every year for the warranty to stay valid. Keep the records.

  • Benchmark checklist

The commissioning record we fill in and sign on the day. Keep it with the manual: it’s asked for if you ever claim.

FAQ

Worcester Bosch installation questions

Is a Worcester Bosch boiler worth the extra?

It can be, but it isn’t the only good choice. Worcester Bosch boilers are well made and parts for current models are widely available, and many people value a name they know. Other major brands are also reliable when they’re sized and fitted properly. If you ask, we’ll quote for a Greenstar and an alternative so you can compare.

How long does a Greenstar installation take?

Swapping a combi for a new Greenstar combi in the same place is usually a one-day job. Changing boiler type or moving it usually takes two days, occasionally three if there are tanks to take out of the loft.

Will a new Greenstar fit where my old boiler was?

Often, especially if the old one is also a Worcester Bosch. If it’s a different make, the pipes underneath usually need some alteration. That’s normal, and it’s included in the quote.

Which thermostat should I have with a Greenstar?

One that meets Boiler Plus and suits how you live. Worcester Bosch makes its own controls, and some other smart thermostats work with Greenstar boilers too. We’ll tell you which work with your model and fit it on the day.
