Hot water on demand
No waiting for a tank to heat. It also means no heat lost from a stored cylinder through the day.
Combi boilers · Croydon
Hot water on demand, no tanks, no waiting for a cylinder to heat up. We fit new combi boilers across Croydon, sized properly for your home and your water pressure.
Gas Safe registeredNo. 567789How a combi works
A combination boiler heats water the moment you turn on a hot tap, straight from the cold mains. There is no hot water cylinder to store it and no cold water tanks in the loft, which is why combis are the most popular boiler in Croydon’s flats and terraced houses.
The trade-off is that a combi serves one outlet well at a time. Run a shower and a hot tap together and both slow down. For most one-bathroom homes that never matters. For a busy family with two bathrooms, a system boiler with a cylinder can be the better choice, and we'll say so.
Already have a combi? Then a like-for-like replacement is the simplest job we do: same position, same pipework, usually finished the same day. If you have a cylinder or loft tanks now and want to get rid of them, see combi conversions.
Good to know
No waiting for a tank to heat. It also means no heat lost from a stored cylinder through the day.
No cylinder, no loft tanks. Many people turn the old airing cupboard into storage.
With decent mains flow, showers are often stronger than a gravity-fed system without a pump.
Two showers at once is where a combi struggles. Bigger homes may suit a system boiler better.
Low incoming flow means weak hot water whatever the boiler size. We measure it first.
With a cylinder you may have an immersion heater as a fallback. With a combi, no boiler means no hot water.
Sizing guide
A rough guide for Croydon homes. Bigger isn't better: an oversized boiler cycles on and off and wastes gas. We confirm the size by checking your water pressure and flow rate on the day of the survey.
| Home | Bathrooms | Usually suits | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat or 1 to 2 bed house | 1 bathroom | Combi | Around 24 to 28kW |
| 3 bed house | 1 bathroom | Combi | Around 28 to 32kW |
| 3 to 4 bed house | 1 bathroom + en-suite | Larger combi | Around 32 to 38kW, if mains flow allows |
| 4 bed or more | 2+ bathrooms used at once | System boiler + cylinder | Sized to the home’s heat loss |
How it works
Two minutes in the quote form: what you have, where it is, how big your home is. Add a photo of the boiler and the flue if you can.
A Gas Safe engineer reviews it and calls you with a written quote and a recommendation. If anything needs checking, we pop round first.
We protect the floors, take the old boiler out, fit and commission the new one, clean the system and show you the controls.
We register the warranty with the manufacturer and notify Building Control through the Gas Safe Register. Your certificate arrives by post.
FAQ
Combis suit most flats and houses with one bathroom, and many with a bathroom and en-suite. They struggle where two showers often run at once, or where the mains water pressure or flow is poor. We check both before recommending one.
If there is no hot water cylinder anywhere in the house, usually in an airing cupboard, and you get hot water as soon as you turn a tap on with the heating off, you almost certainly have a combi.
Yes. Kitchens, utility rooms, bedrooms and lofts are all common. Moving it means new gas, water and condensate pipe runs and a new flue position, so it usually adds a day. Pick “A different room” in the quote form and we’ll price it.
A combi can only deliver as much hot water as the cold mains coming into the house. If the flow rate into the property is low, a bigger combi won’t fix it. That’s why we measure it rather than guess.
It depends on your hot water demand more than your radiators. As a rough guide, flats and smaller homes suit around 24 to 28kW, and three bedroom homes around 28 to 32kW. We confirm the size on the survey.
