Common faults

Common Worcester Bosch fault codes

The codes we see most. Codes vary by model, so check your manual. Never open the boiler’s casing: only a Gas Safe engineer should work inside it.

EA: flame not detected

The boiler tried to light and couldn’t see a flame. Often a gas supply issue, a blocked condensate pipe in cold weather, or a worn ignition electrode.

Try first: Check other gas appliances work and the condensate pipe outside isn’t frozen, then reset once.

CE207: low water pressure

System pressure has dropped below the safe minimum. A leak, a passing pressure relief valve or a flat expansion vessel are the usual causes.

Try first: Top up to about 1.5 bar on the filling loop, following the manual. If it drops again, call us.

E9: overheat lockout

The boiler has shut down to protect itself from overheating, often from poor circulation: a sticking pump, sludge or closed valves.

Try first: Make sure radiator valves are open. Don’t keep resetting it; it needs looking at.

About Worcester Bosch boilers

Worcester Bosch boilers we repair

Most Worcester Bosch boilers we see are Greenstar models, from older Greenstar Junior and Si combis to the current Greenstar i and 4000 and 8000 ranges. Older models show a two-character code with a separate number; newer ones show a code such as CE207 on the display.

Boiler still under the manufacturer’s warranty? Contact Worcester Bosch first, as warranty repairs are usually done by their own engineers. Out of warranty, or they can’t help? That’s where we come in. If the repair isn’t worth it on an older boiler, we’ll say so and price a replacement instead.

How it works

How a repair works

  1. 1

    Tell us what it’s doing

Pick the symptoms, the make and any fault code in the form, or call us. A photo of the display saves a lot of guesswork.

  2. 2

    We call you back

An engineer talks it through, tells you if there’s anything safe to try yourself, and books a visit if it needs one.

  3. 3

    Diagnose and fix

We find the fault, tell you what it needs and what it costs before doing anything. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you how long it will take.

  4. 4

    Safety checked

Before we leave we check the boiler is burning and venting safely, and tell you honestly if it’s worth repairing again.

FAQ

Worcester Bosch repair questions

Is my Worcester Bosch still under warranty?

Worcester Bosch warranties depend on the model and how it was registered, and they usually need an annual service to stay valid. Check with Worcester Bosch first: if it is covered, they will normally need to send their own engineer.

Can you get Worcester Bosch parts?

Parts for current and recent Greenstar models are widely available, often the same or next day. Some parts for older models are discontinued, and we’ll tell you if that makes a replacement the better option.

What does the fault code on my boiler mean?

Codes vary between models and even between versions of the same model, so check the manual for yours. Put the code in our quote form and the engineer will know what to bring.
