Cupboard space

Ideal · Croydon
Ideal Logic and Vogue boilers are some of the most common we see in Croydon’s flats and terraces. If you’ve decided on an Ideal, we’ll fit the right one, sized for your home, with a fixed written quote.

Ideal boilers
Ideal is a British boiler maker based in Hull. Its two main gas ranges are Logic and Vogue. Logic is the range we see most often in Croydon flats and terraces. Vogue is Ideal’s higher-specification range.
Many people come to us already set on an Ideal because the last one did well, or because a Logic is what was fitted when the flat was built. That’s a fine reason. We still check the size and type, because a like-for-like brand isn’t always a like-for-like boiler.
We fit all the major brands, so our advice isn’t tied to one make. If your Ideal just needs fixing, see Ideal boiler repair. For flats, see also boiler replacement in flats.
Logic or Vogue?
In general terms. Exact models, outputs and features change, so we confirm the current model on your quote.
| Compare | Logic | Vogue |
|---|---|---|
| Where it sits | Ideal’s mainstream range | Ideal’s higher-specification range |
| Boiler types | Combi, system and heat-only (regular) models | Combi and system models |
| Often suits | Flats and smaller homes, straightforward swaps | People who want the higher-spec model and are happy to spend more |
| What decides it | Your hot water demand, mains flow and budget | Your hot water demand, mains flow and budget |
Either range needs sizing to your home. We confirm it on the survey.
Sizing guide
A rough guide for Croydon homes. Bigger isn't better: an oversized boiler cycles on and off and wastes gas. We confirm the size by checking your water pressure and flow rate on the day of the survey.
| Home | Bathrooms | Usually suits | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat or 1 to 2 bed house | 1 bathroom | Combi | Around 24 to 28kW |
| 3 bed house | 1 bathroom | Combi | Around 28 to 32kW |
| 3 to 4 bed house | 1 bathroom + en-suite | Larger combi | Around 32 to 38kW, if mains flow allows |
| 4 bed or more | 2+ bathrooms used at once | System boiler + cylinder | Sized to the home’s heat loss |
Fitting an Ideal in a flat
Most Ideal boilers we replace in flats sit in a kitchen cupboard with the flue through the outside wall. These are the things that shape the job.
The new boiler needs to fit the cupboard with room to service it. Most current combis fit where an older one was, but we check the measurements.
Flue position is regulated near windows, doors, boundaries and eaves, and set by the manufacturer’s instructions. A new flue may need to move slightly.
If your building has a managing agent or freeholder, check whether they need to approve the work or a new flue position.
The small drain pipe from the boiler can freeze if it runs outside. We route it inside where we can.

FAQ
An Ideal is a sensible choice for many homes, especially flats and smaller houses. Paying more for a different brand doesn’t automatically give you a better result: sizing, a clean system and good controls matter more. We’ll tell you if we think another model suits your home better, and why.
Yes, including flats above the first floor. The usual job is a combi in a kitchen cupboard with a flue through the wall. If there’s a managing agent or freeholder, check whether they need to approve a new flue.
Logic is Ideal’s mainstream range and Vogue is its higher-specification range. Both need sizing to your home. We’ll quote for the one we think suits you, and price the other if you’d like to compare.
Often, yes. Boilers in the same family often share a similar layout, so the new one can usually go in the same position with fewer pipe changes. Older Ideal models can differ, so a photo of the pipes under the boiler helps.
No. We register it in your name after installation. How long it lasts depends on the model and how it’s registered, and it needs an annual service to stay valid.
