An older Viessmann
A swap within the same family is often simpler, as boilers in one range often share a similar layout. Older models can differ, so we check your photos.

Viessmann Vitodens
Viessmann is a German manufacturer, and its wall-hung gas boilers are sold under the Vitodens name. People who ask us for one usually have a reason: they’ve had one before, or they’ve read about the brand and want it.
That’s a good reason to start with, and we’re happy to fit one. We fit all the major brands, so we’ll also tell you plainly if another model would suit your home as well for less.
There’s no Viessmann repair page on this site. If your current boiler has a fault, see boiler repair. We repair most makes, and we’ll tell you if a repair is worth it before you think about replacing.
Choosing a Vitodens
The model name matters less than these. We work through them with you on the quote.
A combi gives hot water straight from the mains. A system boiler with a cylinder copes better when two bathrooms are in use at once.
Flats and 1 to 2 bed homes usually need around 24 to 28kW, 3 bed homes around 28 to 32kW. The survey confirms it.
A combi can only deliver as much hot water as comes in from the street. We measure it before recommending one.
Viessmann makes its own controls and app for its boilers. Third-party smart thermostats vary, so we check what works properly with your model.
Flue position is regulated near windows, doors, boundaries and eaves, and set by the manufacturer’s instructions. Same position is usually simplest.
Comparing quotes
Whichever brand you choose, a fair quote lists these. Use it to compare like with like.
A survey of flue, gas supply and water flow
Decides the boiler size and whether a combi will give decent showers.
“How did you size the boiler?”
System cleaned to BS 7593, with inhibitor
Sludge from the old system is the main killer of new boilers.
“Is a full system clean included?”
Magnetic system filter
Keeps catching debris for the life of the boiler.
“Which filter, and where will it go?”
Controls that meet Boiler Plus
A legal requirement in England, and it saves gas.
“Which controls are included?”
New flue kit, positioned to the rules
Reusing an old flue or a bad position can fail inspection.
“Is the flue new, and where will it exit?”
Condensate pipe protected from frost
A frozen condensate pipe is the most common winter breakdown.
“Where will the condensate drain?”
Old boiler, tanks and cylinder removed
Disposal costs money. Make sure it’s not an extra on the day.
“Is removal and disposal included?”
Building Control notified, warranty registered
Without them, selling the house and claiming on the warranty get harder.
“Who notifies, and who registers the warranty?”

Usually still a one-day job in the same place. The pipes under the boiler normally need some alteration, which is included in the quote.
You can keep the cylinder with a Vitodens system boiler, or convert to a combi and lose the tanks. Converting usually adds a day.
The new boiler goes in a new position, usually the kitchen, and the old one comes out from behind the fire. It’s a longer job.
How it works
Two minutes in the quote form: what you have, where it is, how big your home is. Add a photo of the boiler and the flue if you can.
A Gas Safe engineer reviews it and calls you with a written quote and a recommendation. If anything needs checking, we pop round first.
We protect the floors, take the old boiler out, fit and commission the new one, clean the system and show you the controls.
We register the warranty with the manufacturer and notify Building Control through the Gas Safe Register. Your certificate arrives by post.
Who you’re dealing with
Anyone working on gas in your home must be on the Gas Safe Register. It takes thirty seconds to check, and you should check whoever you use.
Registration number 567789. Required by law for anyone working on gas appliances.
Formally trained and qualified in plumbing and heating.
Public liability cover for work in your home.
A registered limited company, not a one-off trader. Your quote and paperwork come from the company.
FAQ
For some owners it is, and that’s a fair choice. But a higher price doesn’t by itself mean a better result: correct sizing, a clean system and good controls matter more than the badge. We’ll quote for the Vitodens you want and say honestly if we think a different model would do as well.
Yes. In flats the boiler is usually in a kitchen cupboard with a flue through the wall. We check the cupboard size and flue position, and if there’s a managing agent or freeholder, check whether they need to approve a new flue.
Usually, yes. We don’t have a separate Viessmann repair page, but our engineers repair most makes, and our boiler repair page explains how it works. Check whether the boiler is still under warranty first.
It needs an annual service by a Gas Safe engineer, like any gas boiler, and that service keeps the warranty valid. We can service it for you each year.
It depends on the model and how it’s registered. It must be registered after installation and the boiler serviced every year. We register it in your name and tell you what your model comes with on the quote.
